30th July 2023 / 2 minute read

With the Blue Light Weekend in Withernsea swiftly approaching, today we're highlighting the work of HM Coastguard based in the resort, whose hardworking volunteers ensure our coastal celebrations are as secure as they are entertaining.

The 11-strong HM Coastguard team in Withernsea is a key part of the 'sea family' in the town, playing an invaluable role throughout the year, vigilantly protecting our coastline around the clock and ensuring the safety of locals and visitors.

Throughout the weekend of 12-13 August, the Withernsea Coastguard team will not only be performing their vital duties of maintaining safety around our coastline, but they will also be actively engaging with visitors. They will offer an exciting insight into their work and raise awareness about the importance of maritime safety.

The Coastguard’s presence at the Blue Light Weekend will include its emergency incident air shelter – an inflatable marquee that acts as an incident room for potentially large-scale incidents – as well as its incident support vehicle kitted out with maps, searchlights, heating facilities and space to plan operations. There will also be displays to get the safety message across and inspire us all into thinking about maritime-related careers.

So, let's take a moment to appreciate the hard work and dedication of HM Coastguard – the country's fourth emergency service. They tirelessly protect our coast, actively engage in community life and will undoubtedly contribute to the success of the Blue Light Weekend.
